Year 6 Cycle Safety

Our Year 6 students had a great couple of days working on their cycle safety. We were very lucky to have the City Council teachers come in!

Athletics Training

As the summer months approach we have been getting stuck into our Athletics preparation. The teachers have been running a rotation on High Jump, Long Jump, Shot Put and Discus and we recently had some experts come in to take some sessions.

Last Tuesday we had Andy come in to take us for some sprint training. Students learn how to get set for the start of a race, how to move their hands from 'pockets to ears' and how to stay low at the start. There was a noticable difference once students started using these tips.

On Wednesday, Sport Canterbury came in to run the students through some more alternative throwing and jumping drills. These were put into a game format but over the course of the session we saw big improvements in techniques used by children. One of the real benefits was that students would have made hundreds of jumps in the session rather than about a dozen if we were just doing High Jump or Long Jump.

Working with a nutritionist and visiting the supermarket

Because we have been studying kai this term we invited a nutristionist from Food Stuffs to come in and work with Korimako to learn about what is in our food and how much of certain things should we be eating. The students learnt to read the labels on food packaging and compare foods.

They then visited New World where they put their new found knowledge to the test and found everyday food and occasional foods. These a great life skills and skills that they can apply to their Inquiry.

Thank you Food Stuffs!

Sports Uniforms - Returned

Hi All

All students who borrowed a Sports Uniform must return it before the end of the term.  If it is not returned parents will be charged for the replacement of the top.  Mr. Cook is not accepting any returns during Term 4.  Students are to return it to Mr. Cook in person during any Morning Tea time.

Kind Regards
Korimako
